Boxing Day Fun Run – Caldicot

Just the job to blow the cobwebs away was the 2.8 mile Caldicot Fun Run.
I was still undecided as to whether I was in running mode, and soon settled in to a nice gentle jog round the 2 laps.

Andy & I came in near the back of the field but I had a good time and enjoyed the relaxed approach.

After the race was a spread of Chip Butties at the race HQ – Ye Olde Tippling Philosopher – and a good chance to socialise.

Perhaps this is the future for my running?  taking things at a slow pace but with a smile on my face. Still a period of deliberation but deep down I think that you will find me trying hard at some of the club training evenings, and also making plans for some races through 2009.

See you then…

Night Orienteering at Headless Hill

First, thanks to Andy Creber for the planning and organising. On the night he got a bit of flack for using the old fashioned cards and punches – where did he get them from?

Getting ready was interesting, finding an assortment of Petzl LED headlights, and old Silva head torch with batteries 5 years old but still functioning, and a couple of bicycle lights. We found enough for the 4 of us with emergency spares if required. We all struggled when dazzled by the keen participants but all made it without too much of a mishap.

This was another family affair with me up against my son Ian, and my wife and daughter-in-law running as a pair. As prediced I came in second – still in my rest from running and a relatively feeble light I basically didn’t even manage to navigate properly. Still, all good fun.

Time for a Rest?

After the Blorenge – see previous post – and a training session down in Chepstow I came to the conclusion that the mind and body weren’t in perfect harmony and a short break was needed. No races or hard training until things are better.

As a result I had a great time at the weekend watching the Gwent League at Blaise Castle and then the Forest of Dean Christmas Race. Some good photos thanks to the glorious weather – bright low sunshine.
